Lough Owel April 23

Our first outing of the year took place on Lough Owel on April 2nd. 22 anglers were in attendance, all keen to cast off the Winter cobwebs and enjoy a good day on the water. The competition was fished on a catch measure, photograph and release basis. Fishing was tough on the day despite a good hatch of duckfly. The successful anglers on the day chose to ignore the duckfly hatch and concentrate on the predatory tendencies of the trout with almost all the trout caught coming to Minkies and Humongous lures. Luckily Martin Kearney was on hand to raise spirits with a delicious stew at lunchtime.

When the results were tallied at the end of the day a new member came out as top rod.

  • 1st Andrew Kelly – 20.5″
  • 2nd Kieran Garvey – 18.75″
  • 3rd Terry Jennings – 18″

Our next outing will take place on Lough Sheelin on May 27th. We hope to see you there.
